Laila Muraywid, Blood Deeper than Shadows, Green Art Gallery, May 9th – June 25th 2009

The exhibition will showcase her photographic and sculpture practice, together for the first time in the Middle East, which are interlinked with her haute couture jewellery design.
For Muraywid, jewelry is a device which can be used to address the status of women in society, as she believes that jewelry represents wealth and seduction, whilst at the same time it can also be viewed as a form of confinement and restraint.
Her sculptures on the other hand begin with a framework of woven steel, brass and copper, which she then adorns with silk, stones, resin and strass, as homage to femininity. She uses strass as a source of light, not for its shiny quality but in order to capture the material. The textured reliefs of her creations mirror mystical reflections.
Opening Reception: Saturday 9th of May 2009, 7:30 pm onwards
