ARNAUD RIVIEREN, ‘THE HATCHING’, B21 Gallery, 26th January – 24th February 2009
Over the years, Rivieren has developed a decidedly minimalist style as he experimented with stainless steel recycled from the industrial scrap yards of the UAE. This new collection of work demonstrates that Rivieren has set himself free from the constraints of this medium in an effort to emphasize the conceptual value of sculpture.
The Hatching questions themes of origin and issues of free-will – a ruminative process that found primary solace in the shape of an egg. Set in a confounding array of surreal situations, giant stainless steel eggs are brimming with studied symbolism, but the visceral impact alone sets the imagination alight.
